Our Story

Kanoetree Wines is a boutique family owned winery located in the Langhorne Creek wine region.

Originally a dairy farm with large red gum trees and flanking the Angas River. Two large red gum trees have had aboriginal canoes cut out of the bark. One is still alive and standing proud next to the river crossing on Watson Park Road (picture on the home page), the other has long fallen over and rotted, leaving telltale roots and a stone axe head that was plowed up.

Owned by the Haeusler family,  the property was divided between two of the brothers. Vines were first planted on the western side of the property in 1968.  Sue and David Haeusler planted the first vineyard on the eastern section, of Shiraz, Malbec, Cabernet, Merlot and Verdelho in the mid-1990s. The flood plains of the Angas river were a perfect fertile environment for quality producing vines.

David a University of Adelaide / Roseworthy graduate, has worked in the industry all his life, first in his uncle’s vineyard then assisting in the setup and working as assistant winemaker and production manager in a neighboring winery. During a period when grapes were difficult to sell Sue and David decided to set up their own winery. Using their interest in wine and winemaking, and skills in engineering and electrical, David and Sue set up their small working winery on their property. The first grapes were crushed for their own label in 2016. We are in total control from the growing of the grapes through to bottling.
